Once they finish the marble game the guy who lost his wife is begging everyone to vote to stop. This may seem like he’s just done but in the pilot they say that the eliminated’s 100 million will go to their families if they voted to stop the game. My theory is that the guy knew this and was trying to get the 100 million from his wife’s death. He does hang himself, yes but I think that he realized that he couldn’t win any way and he was just trying to salvage what he could.

2021.10.18 08:44 nigel_chua My approach to hustle and growing first business from $100 to 7-figures before it was acquired. Took a 18 months sabbatical before joining my wife's business and growing it to 7-figures+ and outsourcing myself again. Part 2 of 2
This is part 2 of 2, and due to feedback, I'm
Also, I realize they're not secret-secrets but moreso open secret, and they're very topline kind of approach/philosophy, so it may be more generic for many, but it's truly the approach I take to manage all the businesses I run and grow. If you'd like more information, just reply / comment / ask questions and I'll be happy to expand the point(s).
- adding part 1 information to this post and video link at bottom together with part 2
- expanding the points as much as / where I can
Some of my friends and family members asked me how did I do that, so I decided to collate the approach I took to grow businesses and I apparently have "only" six (6) approaches.
Apparently I only have six (6) secrets to the secret sauce of successful business LOL and the first 3 are: #1: Know Your Stuff Inside Out AND The Benefit It Brings To Your Clients
First up, you gotta know what you're doing and selling. You need to learn and know this at the back of your hand because it'd translate to
- how good you'd do the job >> outcome AND
- how you can communicate the benefits to your clients
Both of these are required.
So being good at the job = delivering the quality that the clients are looking for.
For the communicating the benefits part, this applies to leads/potential clients who have a problem that you can solve but are unsure how or if you've the right solution.
Example #1 a new parent strained his / her wrist due to care giving of a new born, and now it frustrates them that they 1) can't lift the newborn properly and safely (pain causes them to lose strength and stability of the wrist; 2) cant take care of the newborn eg cant wipe their bottoms or change their diaper due to the pain in their wrist. A hand therapist who is well versed in managing these kinds of problems can
- explain what is the common wrist conditions/injuries that new parents face, which is typically de Quervain's tenosynovisits (mummy's thumb), carpal tunnel syndrome etc
- what they can do to treat the pain (eg customized splinting, hand therapy, ultrasound therapy etc) to resolve the problem as rapidly as possible
- alternative methods to lifting the newborn safely and care giving so that the parents can continue to parent for the newborn
This process is specific for parents who develop wrist pain with care giving for a new born.
It's different for different people with different conditions and different hobbies / occupations etc:
There are literally hundreds+ of different conditions and many different types of occupations / hobbies / responsibilities that can be affected. One need to deep dive into the products and solution one offers to be able to communicate the specific type of benefit for the specific type of need. #2: Be On Top Of Your Business Too
- older yoga lady who finds it difficult to wear her bra due to the painful condition that came up in her wrist and elbow
- passionate home keepers who cant wring their wiping cloth dry due to finger and elbow conditions that came up due to wringing
- etc etc - too many examples
So #1 is about diving deep to immerse in developing the skills, experience and knowledge to provide valuable solutions to your clients, and that's good. Some people prefer to focus here and be super good solopreneurs or small business owners. And that's not wrong at all...as long as you do it because you want to, and not because you have no choice.
I find that if you want to grow and scale your business, you have to
- take a step back and understand your business
- how it works
- where the fault lines and bottlenecks are
- where the leads are coming from
- where the leaks are forming
Ie studying and understanding your business as a system.
I do this by taking time out at least 60 minutes x 2 different days a week, to study and examine the entire business process, flow and system.
Any flaws or errors are to be fixed immediately; and more importantly I try to anticipate forward, eg say I need at least 10 new clients a month to breakeven, and the 11th client onward is profit, then I will
- set a target of 15 clients (cos I want to be profitable)
- determine my conversion rate; if my conversion rate is 20%, then I would need have 75 leads a month (75 leads x 20% conversion rate = 15 new clients a month)
- find more and better lead generation sources
That's my simplified manner of resolving revenue-generating activities, and this problem solving can be applied to other aspects of the business including
#3: Delight Your Clients
- human resource
- expense management
- etc etc
This is a famous saying by Warren Buffett, where he shared "no business has ever gone out of business by delighting their customers
" and this is 100% true.
Examples of delighting customers:
I recommend you treat your clients like family, deliver value, do not take advantage of them and instead take good care of them, and they may just well become raving fans who comes back again and again, and recommends others. Always be sincere. #4 Work Hard & Keep Improving.
- spending time with them and help them solve their top issue eg our patients with back pain that wants to go back to golfing...he/she wants to go back to golfing without back pain
- taking time to listen to their feedback and responding appropriately
- being sincere and authentic - dont pander
- if you make a mistake, apologize and confess sincerely and make it up to them
- dont treat them like ATMs or cash cows
- be upfront, honest and authentic
- sending them messages on their birthdays
- dont overpromise BUT overdeliver whenever possible
There is no substitute for consistent hard work.
Hard work will help you get better and better with
- core deliverable work
- sales / reach more clients and leads
Working hard can be a generic term, and it's because it's applicable (and requirement) to all parts of life and business. #5 Simplify / One Core A Time
One of the biggest problems to sales was having too many options eg a restaurant selling 100 items on their menu.
A much better approach to the restaurant was to simply and focus on a few key items eg
- 2 kinds of starters
- 3 kinds of mains
- 2 kinds of desserts
It may seem counter-productive, but it actually has 2 main benefits:
- You can get much better with a few core items (rather than being a mediocre jack of many)
- It's much easier to choose a main out of 3 choices versus 100.
So for our business, though we have multiple core services ie
- physiotherapy / physical therapy
- hand therapy + customized splinting
- TCM acupuncture
What made it easier was that we're all in the niche of orthopedic and sports injury management AND we're collaborative (eg a patient who has a back injury may also be interested and benefit from acupuncture and massage etc). So we focus only in managing and treating orthopedic and sports conditions. And note: each clinician only do one thing eg physiotherapists provide physical therapy; TCM physicians provide acupuncture etc
Anyone that doesn't fall into this category, eg whenever we get enquiries for neurorehab such as stroke or Alzheimers or brain injuries; or pediatrics - we pass them along to those who specialize in that.
We just want to do what we can definitely do well.
For people looking to start a new business, do one thing very well first before offering another service. #6 Push Through + Persist
Success takes time.
Getting good takes practice and time.
Overcoming tough times takes time.
Sometimes you may need to persist through assholes, betrayals and criticisms too.
Some warranted, some unwarranted.
Sometimes you get good days, some days may be awful.
Sometimes you get tired.
Sometimes what you started may not be what you wanted or end up with.
Learn from mistakes, pain and lessons and use it to pivot and refine until you get to the path where you want.
Good times will come, and so will tough times - just roll and push through
I hope it's helpful for you and all the best!
